Park Ranger

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Administer operations, such as day-to-day operation of a recreation site, that involves onsite decisions and judgments Advise visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, amenities available, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities Patrol and inspect facilities ensuring compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to parking, campfires, noise level, sanitation, and safety Present a variety of formal and interpretive programs to include but not limited to, orientation talks, environmental education programs, conducted walks, demonstrations, and campfire programs Assist in gathering and analyzing data related to existing recreational resources to recognize prominent trends Plan day-to-day operations of a recreation area or site that provides such facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas; coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel Carry out resource management or protection work, such as evaluation of resource conditions, or enforcement of use requirements, that requires skill and judgment to obtain desired results Identify and resolve problems or apparent violations of regulations concerning the use of protected or public land areas, and to carry out overall agency policies and procedures within the field office area. Qualifications:
To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
GS-05:
Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service performing duties such as:
(1) advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, amenities available on recreational facilities; (2) developing interpretive materials such as pamphlets, exhibits, signs, guidebooks, and handouts for educational programs; (3) conducting research on topics to develop interpretive programs; (4) conducting inventories and ordering supplies for office or visitor information purposes; and (5) posting daily weather, flash flood, and road conditions for the safety of visitors. OR Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours of major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resource, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance to do the work of this position. OR Have some specialized experience as described in statement A, but less than one (1) year; and I have more than two (2) years but less than 4-years course of study above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree as described in statement B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To combine education and experience, first divide your total months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education beyond two (2) years (60 semester hours) by 30. Add the two percentages together. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify). (Note:
Only undergraduate education in excess of the second year (60 semester hours) is creditable toward meeting the experience requirement when combining experience and education.) GS-07:
Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service performing duties such as:
(1) responding to emergency calls or operations and takes action necessary to preserve peace, resolve problems, and protect visitors and resources; (2) conducting surveys, questionnaires, and group discussions to identify visitor needs for programs and services; (3) presenting a variety of formal and interpretive program that include environmental education programs, conducted walks, and campfire programs; (4) analyzing data related to existing recreational resources to recognize trends; and (5) Issuing citations to violators for things such:
as traffic and parking tickets or warnings. OR Have one (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education from an accredited college or university with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resource, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance to do the work of this position. (NOTE:
You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education).OR Have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resource, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance to do the work of this position, and I meet one of the following requirements for Superior Academic Achievement at the undergraduate level:
1) Class standing -- Graduated in the upper third of the class based on completed courses in the college, university, or major subdivision; 2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.)2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 scale as recorded on official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. (Note:
A copy of your transcript is required as documented proof of your GPA, class standing, or election to honor society membership. Failure to provide your transcript will result in an ineligible rating).OR Have some specialized experience as described in statement A, but less than one (1) year of graduate education as described in statement B. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
