Park Ranger (Visitor Use)

Park Rangers support the Bureau's parks and recreation programs. The incumbent may also provide comparable resource information regarding lands or programs administered by other agencies or organization. Duties include (but are not limited to):
Provides information to members of the public on types of recreational opportunities available on BLM and other agency lands as well as related recreational opportunities available in the area. Issues permits, process permit renewals, collects fees, and monitors compliance. Advises visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper uses of recreational facilities. Participate in evaluating visitor use patterns, preparing and maintaining recreation sites, and monitoring condition of sites and natural and cultural resources. Prepares correspondence to respond to visitor inquires and answers telephones. May develop interpretive materials and present formal or informal presentations. Gathers data related to recreation resources to recognize prominent trends. Work is primarily conducted in a visitor center, providing information to the public. May require standing or sitting for long periods of time. Some work may occur outdoors in all types of weather on rugged terrain to include; steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. Position require physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain, standing for long periods of time, bending, digging, hiking, lifting, or similar activities. Duties may require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Work may involve early morning hours, daytime hours, or night hours and may require working on holidays and weekends. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. To qualify for the GS-05 you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include:
explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; assisting with guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. To qualify for the GS-06 you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include:
explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; performing security patrols in a park or similar area ; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; developing and conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; monitoring special recreation permits; or assisting with supervision of seasonal recreation technicians. -OR- Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work). -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Related Course Work includes:
natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science related to the protection of public lands, social sciences, museum sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly relates to the duties performed by a Park Ranger. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
