Specialized experience is experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-0018 - Safety and Occupational Health Management Series For the GS-09:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in federal service; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). Examples of specialized experience are:
Conducted and/or organized safety training in the field or classroom; led and/or participated in after action incident reviews or facilitated learning analyses; prepared and implemented project job hazard analyses; and/or participated in the applications of risk management principles in the development or implementation of projects or field operation. For the GS-11 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-9 grade level in federal service; OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Examples of specialized experience are:
Participated or assisted in the development and implementation of a unit safety and risk management program; coordinated, conducted and/or organized training in the field or classroom related to safety and risk management; organized, led and/or participated in accident investigations, after action reviews or facilitating learning analyses; and reviewed, prepared and implemented project job hazard analyses. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines:
safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
