Park Ranger (OHV)

Park Rangers (Off-Highway Vehicle) support the Bureau's recreation program. As non-commissioned (non-law enforcement) personnel, park rangers must possess excellent public relations and critical thinking skills. They work with the public to provide information and education concerning safe and responsible OHV use on public lands, monitor for compliance with BLM travel plan rules and regulations, monitor for resource damage, maintain trails and recreation sites, evaluate visitor use patterns, and protect natural and cultural resources. They may respond to emergency situations by providing emergency medical aid and technical search and rescue capabilities. The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain and austere conditions. This includes very steep, rough, uneven and shifting terrain. Work takes place in all weather conditions including hot temperatures, high winds, sometimes heavy rain in both day and night settings. The work is arduous and applicants should posses a high degree of physical fitness. Your resume must contain enough information to show that you meet the specialized experience as defined below. GS-05 Park Ranger - one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-06 Park Ranger - one year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience include explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; monitoring special recreation permits; assisting with park tours, or assisting with supervision of seasonal recreation technicians. -OR- Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work). -OR-A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. GS-07-Park Ranger - one year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 level. Examples of specialized experience include experience as a park guide or tour leader; archaeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; planning day to day operation of a recreation area providing such facilities as camping, water sports, picnic areas, or coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel; advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities; and collecting fees. Specialized experience will include basic knowledge of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use on public lands or similar environment. -OR- Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work). -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. Related Course Work -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science related to the protection of public lands, social sciences, museum sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly relates to the duties performed by a Park Ranger.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
